Help us stay green

What’s this ?

The picture above shows the harvest of only one round trip to the chalets. Yes, these are indeed cigarette butts. It does not  include those in the refuse bins or on the dam walls, where there are even more.  Anglers are supposed to use the containers provided, but as it seems, with little effect. It makes us a little sad because the flyfisher is an eco or “green” conscious person. Therefore we feel at liberty to call upon all guests to put their cigarette butts and refuse in the ash trays and bins. To further accommodate smokers, we now also supply eco mini bins which clip onto the belt, clothing or bag at R25 each. The lid can also be pushed out to hold small throw-aways like chewing gum or toffee wrappings. The slide show that follows tries to encourage smokers with acknowledgement of their rights, to please co-operate and contribute to a ” greener” and cleaner environment. We thank all for understanding :

Treeferns Trout Lodge is proud of its safety record. We are committed to the safety of our guests, and therefore on arrival guests are made aware of risks on the farm by means of a notice board displaying safety signs :
From left to right,   top to bottom :
- Falling from steps
- slipping and falling
- swimming prohibited
- flying lines and hooks
- children without supervision
- farming equipment
- fires
- falling from cliffs
- unsafe parking
- uv rays
- thunderstorms
- lightning
- cattle
- insects eg. scorpions
- snakes

In the 15 years that we have been hosting guests, not a single incident or accident occurred that could have been prevented. A few minor bruises and hook injuries were treated. Also no loss of guests’ property were reported.

Management is sensitive to the health, safety and security of quests, and conducted a comprehensive risk analysis. Procedures and  programmes are presently being drawn up to eliminate or minimize risks to guests. Some items have already been implemented, viz.warning signs, road signs, fire extinquishers, barriers, hand rails, security doors, etc. Fire breaks and road maintenance are part and parcel of the overall management of the farm. Fire fighting equipment is available, and personnel are trained in fire prevention and fighting. Drinking water is analised and monitored regularly. Sewage is pumped and removed, and physical refuse dumped at the municipal refuse dump.

Forgotten items are collected and kept indefinitely.

A first aid kit is available at Reception.

However, you are well advised to bring own prescribed medication.

Guests are encouraged to bring to the attention of Management  any hazardous situation, and parents made  aware of the safety of  their children specifically near the dams.

From a farming point of view, the health and safety of employees also receive special attention. Safety instruction is part and parcel of  training and day-to-day operating; likewise the safety and health of animals, i.e. cattle. To enhance the easy and safe handling and vaccination of cattle, the old crush was recently replaced with a new mobile crush :
